
Meet Kate Kontou, a Respiratory Physiotherapist with a passion for chronic respiratory disease management, research, and reducing health inequalities. With years of experience in the NHS, Kate has dedicated her career to improving the lives of patients suffering from long-term respiratory conditions.
Having graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2009, Kate completed her rotations, and a specialist community role before taking over as therapy lead at the prestigious BreathingSpace in Rotherham from 2014-2020, where she was responsible for delivering high-quality pulmonary rehabilitation on a large scale. Keen to showcase her service, she stepped forward as the lead clinician as one of the pilot sites for the pulmonary rehab accreditation scheme, enabling her to demonstrate her keen interest in illness prevention and health promotion for those with chronic respiratory diseases.
In 2020, Kate took the opportunity to become a Future Leaders Programme Fellow with Health Education England, where she developed her skills in leadership and strategic thinking. Determined to progress down the health equity pathway, Kate became one of the National Population Health Fellows in 2021, showcasing her dedication to reducing health inequalities across the population she serves.
Currently, Kate is working as the Clinical Programme Manager for a city-wide Long Covid Programme, where she is responsible for overseeing the Programme strategically and Rehabilitation Hub clinically and operationally. Through her role, Kate is making a significant difference to the lives of those affected by Long Covid, further demonstrating her passion for improving patient outcomes and reducing health disparities.
Kate's expertise, commitment, and passion make her a valuable asset to healthcare, and she continues to be a driving force in promoting health equity and delivering high-quality care to those in need.
