Phil is the Senior Respiratory Clinical Scientist at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool, with over 12 years of experience in Respiratory Physiology and testing.
He specialises in Paediatric respiratory testing with a keen interest in Cystic Fibrosis, Interstitial Lung Disease and CPET testing. Phil graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a BSc (hons) in Sport Science and then went on to complete a MSc in Clinical Exercise Physiology. Upon completion, he began his working career as a research technician at Medicines Evaluation Unit, Manchester, working in large academic trials involving patients with COPD and Asthma.
In 2016, Phil moved to Alder Hey, where he set up and developed the Lung Function Lab which serves a network of hospitals in the Northwest and Wales. The lab provides all simple and complex investigations and performs over 4500 tests a year.
Phil sits on both the ARTP Paediatric committee as Vice Chair and the spirometry committee and has a keen interest in teaching paediatric physiology and testing.
Phil also has an interest in research, publishing his work and presenting at international conferences, along with authoring chapters of a textbook.
Phil is passionate about promoting child and young person’s health and teaching medical professionals, of all grades, about respiratory physiology and testing, to aid better diagnosis and treatment for patients.
